Lately I have seen many a homeless and most day I simply ignore their pleas for help or my mental chatter is something like this "I am working too hard and spent too much time away from my family to just hand out money,GET A JOB". Then as I drive away I begin to think that I should do something, how can I ignore someone in need, what if just one dollar could truly make a difference -that isn't too much to ask right?
Anywho.... on my lunch break the other day I was leaving the shopping center after purchasing a foot long sub and saw a man with a sign that went like this'...in need ANY LITTLE BIT HELPS..."As I sat, waiting for the light to turn green I thought back, to a time while with my dad; we saw a homeless man in Sugarhouse just off the freeway and as kids we wanted to give him something. My dad agreed and we went to KFC and purchased a meal that we gave to him, he was so grateful and appreciative I remember feeling great when we helped him.
So I said to myself there is no way I'm eating the whole foot long I only got it because its a great deal and I can't pass up a great deal .
I nod to the man and he approaches the car. I tell him I do not have any money but I have the last half of a sandwich. As he reaches for the sandwich he asks 'what kind is it?' It's vegetarian and am met with the response "Oh, no thanks, I don't do vegetarian, hon" and hands back the sandwich then walks away. And I sit....mouth open... any little bit helps?...what?????
I don't know how many people are scamming us out of money, and how many actually need our help, but I will continue to offer what I can to those that ask for it. Regardless of weather or not they "do vegetarian"
